Default Gear selector adjusting

As above after my clutch replacement at dealers the change from 1st to 2nd gear was pretty awful especially when pulling away slow . So decided to adjust the linkage myself and all's fine now. Applies to all models with an F40 gearbox fitted

So here's how I done it.

Firstly remove gear selector surround and ashtray to give you access to selector cables highlighted in yellow

Then using a small flat headed screwdriver prise open the grey and white clips on the selector cables . These are kind of tight and dont need to be taken right off, just prise open at the obvious bit and they will unclip and you will know by the gear lever flapping about when they are un-clipped.

Now lift the reverse gear selector button and underneath the gaiter you will see a white plastic sleeve with one clip at each side . Now press in these two clips while holding the reverse button up using long nose pliers and the plastic sleeve will unclip and drop down.
Now this plastic sleeve is used to lock the gear selector in place for adjustment. This is done by locking the sleeve in the reverse selector gate at the neutral point between 1st and 2nd gear.
P.S Will add pics later for this as the pics have not turned out but the white sleeve is in the first pic for an idea.

Now onto the engine bay

Disconnect and remove battery then pull the plastic wiring harness trunking between the turbo and battery box upwards as it unclips that way then remove battery box by undoing the 3 T30 torx screws .

Now you have access to the gearbox selector you will see a rubber vent pipe in the selector region , pull this out as it give's you better access to align.

Now pull the selector upwards towards you and you will see a hole in the housing and the selector itself. These two holes need to be aligned with one another . I used a 4.5 mm drill bit ... fits perfect

Now with selector lever and the actual selector mechanism locked up . Back to inside of car making sure not to disturb selector lever connect the selector cable clips to the selector cables then unlock the white sleeve and push back home till that clicks back in.
Then back ouside to remove the 4.5mm drill bit from aligning holes and check that the gears are selecting ok with the engine off. If all's well then refit ashtray , gaiter etc then the battery box and battery. Test drive just to make sure . Worked for me so hope this helps anybody else with the same problems

Applies to the F40 box Scott as fitted in the cdti's and petrol turbos. Unsure if this is the exact same method used on other model's but the principle's will be the same
